The water village on a cold wet misty spring morning.








ZHOU ZHUANG, THE WATER VILLAGE.

Zhou Zhuang, the water village of Shanghai, is more than 900 years old. The water village is on the out skirt of Shanghai. On a tour, the bus took us 2 hours, stopping to see a temple on the way, before we arrived at the water village.

Along the way, we saw fields of vegetables, small tidy Chinese gardens. The day was wet, raining and cold, an early morning spring day.
This village is rich in history; the houses built during the Ming and Qing dynasties, the beautiful carved wooden doors, the carved stone bridges are still there in all their mystic splendor.

The water village has lakes on 4 sides and people travel by boat most of the time. There are water lanes that go under beautiful stone carved bridges with hanging weeping willows.

There are shops for the locals and tourist. The early morning scene is one of calm, tranquility and beauty.
Visit this wonderful ancient water village before it disappears into the mist of time.
